Who operates the directory

1066 Directory is operated by Kieran McKeon, trading as 1066 Directory, of 38–40 Ninfield Road, Sidley, Bexhill-on-Sea, TN39 5AB, United Kingdom. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean that legal operator. Our website is https://1066directory.com.

For general enquiries, account matters, corrections, privacy requests, content complaints and copyright reports, email info@1066directory.com. You can also write to the address above or use Contact page. Please identify the subject of your enquiry so that we can route it promptly. You do not need an account or paid listing to contact us or exercise a legal right. Telephone: 01424 238891.

Part A Visitor and website terms

A1 Our role

We provide a local business directory, advertising space and information, including local articles, guides and videos. Unless we expressly agree a different role in a separate contract, we do not supply or perform the goods or services advertised by listed businesses. We do not employ those businesses, supervise their work, act as their agent or insure their performance.

Any enquiry, quotation, booking, purchase, contract, payment or dispute concerning a listed business’s own services is between you and that business. Using a contact facility or link on our website does not make us a party to that arrangement. We do not operate a compensation scheme or guarantee the recovery of money paid to a business.

These statements describe our role; they do not exclude responsibility that the law places on us for our own actions, services or representations.

A2 Where listing information comes from

Listings and content may be supplied by business owners, their authorised representatives, other contributors or our editorial team using information lawfully available to us. Some businesses may appear before their owner has registered with us or claimed the listing.

A listing does not, by itself, mean that its owner approved its creation, paid for it, agreed to these terms, endorsed the directory or authorised another person to speak for it. Where relevant, we distinguish unclaimed listings from listings managed by an authorised account holder.

The presence of a business, its name, logo or contact information is not a statement that we own it, are affiliated with it or guarantee its services. Permission to manage a listing concerns authority over that listing; it is not a professional accreditation.

A3 Checks before choosing a business

Use the directory as a starting point for your own enquiries. Before making a decision, independently confirm the information important to your particular work or purchase. Depending on the service, this may include the business’s identity, current trading details, relevant professional or regulatory registration, qualifications, insurance and its scope, references, suitability, prices, written terms, cancellation arrangements and payment details.

Where safeguarding or criminal-record checks are relevant, use lawful, role-appropriate checks and official procedures. Do not assume that a listing means any such check has been undertaken, or seek information you are not entitled to obtain.

A general recommendation, testimonial, membership status, payment, video or appearance in search results is not a guarantee of competence, safety, financial standing or future performance. If we display a specific check or verification, the accompanying explanation identifies what was checked and its limitations. A check relates to its stated subject and date and may need refreshing. Confirm that it remains relevant to your requirements.

You are not required to waive legal rights or excuse misleading information by carrying out these checks. Nothing here transfers our own legal responsibilities to you.

A4 Accuracy and changing contact information

We take reasonable steps appropriate to the service to maintain accurate information and address errors brought to our attention. Information can nevertheless become incomplete or outdated. Businesses may change ownership, staff, qualifications, insurance, opening hours, prices, addresses, telephone numbers, domain names or services.

Website addresses, social links, phone numbers and email addresses are supplied for convenience. A link is not a continuing certification of its owner, destination or security. A domain or telephone number may expire, be transferred or be taken over without the directory being told. Independently confirm identity before disclosing sensitive information, transferring money or relying on changed payment instructions.

Tell us promptly if a listing or recommendation is inaccurate, belongs to the wrong business, refers to a former proprietor, contains a compromised link or suggests an endorsement that was not given. We may restrict affected material while checking it. We do not treat an error disclaimer as a reason to leave a known harmful or misleading error unaddressed.

A5 Recommendations and testimonials

Recommendations and testimonials describe the contributor’s stated opinion or experience in the context in which they were given. They may concern only a particular job, individual, product or period. They are not a promise that another person’s experience will be the same.

Neither a recommendation nor the display of it, by itself, makes the recommender or the directory a guarantor of the recommended business. This includes an item mistakenly attributed, displayed against the wrong listing or retained after it should have been withdrawn. Such errors should be reported for investigation and correction. These qualifications do not excuse fraud, unlawful misrepresentation, negligent conduct for which liability cannot fairly or lawfully be excluded, or a failure to meet duties imposed by law.

Part C explains authorship, permissions, disclosure and moderation. Read an endorsement in that context and make the checks relevant to your decision.

A6 Articles and professional or technical information

Our articles, news, guides, demonstrations, interviews and videos provide general information. Content may be contributed by independent businesses or other third parties and may express their views. Attribution identifies the contributor; it does not mean we have personally verified every claim or adopted every opinion.

General content is not an assessment of your property, equipment, health, finances, legal position or individual requirements. Obtain appropriate professional advice before acting where your circumstances, safety or a regulated activity require it. Do not attempt hazardous work or work requiring qualifications, registration or authorisation on the strength of a directory article or video.

Information and requirements can change after publication. Where publication or update dates appear, consider them. We may correct, update, annotate or withdraw content. Please report potentially dangerous or materially inaccurate advice, identifying the content and the concern. Nothing in these terms removes our responsibility for our own publication decisions or for actionable content where the law imposes that responsibility.

A7 Paid listings and advertising

Businesses may pay for listings, enhanced features and separate advertisements. Where payment affects a placement or content is an advertisement, we identify its commercial nature in the relevant location. Paying does not establish that a business is more suitable, safer or more highly qualified. The current organic listing order does not apply a paid boost.

An advertisement, sponsored position or commercial link is not an independent editorial recommendation. A relationship or benefit relevant to an endorsement must be disclosed. Where we receive a commission or another material benefit from a link or transaction, we explain that relationship with the relevant material.

Organic listing results reflect the visitor’s search words and selected category, service and location filters. Available published listings are ordered with claimed listings before unclaimed listings, then by the number of recommendations, then alphabetically by business name. Paid advertisements are shown in separate advertising placements; their presence is not a quality assessment. We do not currently apply a paid boost to organic listing order. A position is not a comprehensive ranking of every business in the area, and we may not list every eligible business.

A8 Links and services operated by others

External websites, embedded services and social platforms are operated by their respective providers and may have separate terms and privacy information. Review these before using their services. Their inclusion does not give us control over their current content, security or practices.

We are responsible for our own lawful integration and use of those services. the Cookie Policy explains when optional embedded content or tracking requires your choice before it loads.

A9 Acceptable use

Use the website lawfully and respect other people’s rights. You must not submit unlawful, defamatory, fraudulent, discriminatory, threatening, harassing, invasive or infringing material; impersonate a person or business; misrepresent your authority; create fabricated endorsements; or send spam or unsolicited marketing through our forms.

You must not upload malware, probe or bypass access controls without permission, interfere with the website, misuse another person’s account, harvest personal information or use our content in breach of Part D. Do not publish private addresses, sensitive information or accusations about individuals without a proper lawful basis.

We may take proportionate action to protect users, investigate misuse or comply with law. Part B explains the grounds and process for action affecting business accounts. These restrictions do not prevent good-faith complaints, lawful criticism, protected disclosures or the exercise of legal rights.

A10 Availability and security

We use reasonable care to operate the service and appropriate safeguards for the information we handle. No website, internet connection, electronic message or software system can be guaranteed completely secure, uninterrupted or free from errors or harmful code. Maintenance, faults, attacks or events outside our reasonable control may affect access.

Keep your own devices and software reasonably secure, use strong account credentials and retain copies of material important to you. Report suspected compromise to us. We may temporarily restrict a feature to investigate a security problem or prevent harm.

This section does not exclude our duties to take appropriate security measures, provide a service with legally required care, or make notifications required after a personal data breach. It does not remove any remedy you have where our breach of duty causes loss.

A11 Responsibility to visitors

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Your mandatory consumer rights and applicable data-protection rights and remedies remain unaffected.

Where you use the directory as a consumer, we remain responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of contract or failure to use reasonable care and skill, to the extent required by law. Loss is foreseeable if it is an obvious consequence or was within the parties’ reasonable contemplation when the relevant contract was made. We do not impose the business liability cap in Part B on consumer visitors.

We do not assume a listed business’s debts or liabilities simply by listing or recommending it. Whether we or another person is legally responsible for a particular loss depends on the facts and applicable law. These terms do not prevent a claim against someone who is legally responsible.

A12 Changes and general provisions

We may update these terms to reflect changes in the service, law, security requirements or our operating arrangements. We show the effective date at the top of the page. Changes are not used retrospectively to take away accrued rights or alter the terms of a completed transaction. Part B sets out notice and cancellation protections for continuing business contracts.

We will draw material changes affecting an existing contractual relationship to the relevant user’s attention in an appropriate way and obtain fresh agreement where required. A change to this page does not itself authorise a new use of personal information or replace any consent needed for that use.

If a provision is unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue so far as they can lawfully do so. A delay in enforcing a right does not necessarily waive it. Nothing in these terms creates a partnership, employment relationship or agency between us, listed businesses, contributors or visitors.

English law governs these terms. For a consumer, this does not remove mandatory protections available under the law of their usual place of residence or a right to bring proceedings in a court available under applicable consumer law. For business contracts, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction unless a mandatory rule requires otherwise.

Part B Business listing advertising and contributor terms

B1 Business accounts and acceptance

This Part applies when you create or claim a business account, order a business service, advertise or submit content under these terms. You must be at least 18 and have authority to act for the business and grant the relevant permissions. Identify the correct legal business, not just its trading name, and keep your account contact details current.

Our listing and advertising packages are intended for purchases for business purposes. Calling a purchase a business service does not remove consumer rights if the purchaser legally qualifies as a consumer. Contact us before ordering if the proposed use is primarily personal.

We may request reasonable evidence of authority and refuse or suspend an unproven claim to a listing. Claims, account access and paid orders require our acceptance; an automated acknowledgement or payment authorisation is not necessarily acceptance. The order confirmation explains when the purchased service starts. If we reject an order, we return any payment for that rejected order.

You must protect account credentials and tell us promptly about unauthorised access or loss of authority. You are responsible for actions you authorise and for meeting your own security obligations, not automatically for every act of an intruder regardless of fault.

B2 Listing standards and updates

Provide accurate, current and supportable information. You are responsible for the business’s own services, licences, insurance, registrations, legal compliance, advertising claims, pricing, customer contracts and handling of complaints about its work.

Promptly update the listing and notify us of material changes, including closure, a change of owner or legal entity, loss of a qualification or insurance, changed contact details, a compromised website or withdrawal of a permission or recommendation. Do not use our branding or listing status to imply an accreditation, check or guarantee we have not expressly provided.

We may edit presentation, categorisation and spelling, request evidence, correct factual errors or restrict material for the reasons in B9. We will not knowingly rewrite a genuine testimonial so that it means something materially different. You should check the published listing and report mistakes.

B3 Permission to publish ordinary business content

You retain ownership of content you submit unless a separate signed agreement transfers it. For material you own or are authorised to license, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to store, reproduce, display, communicate, format and make reasonable technical edits to it for operating and promoting the directory and the relevant business listing.

This permission covers the website, directory communications and our own promotional channels. It does not authorise sale of your content as an unrelated stock asset, misleading endorsement or use beyond permissions you were entitled to give. Service providers acting for us may exercise the necessary rights for these purposes. We may grant hosting and distribution platforms the permissions reasonably necessary to publish through the agreed channels, provided these are compatible with the rights you have granted us. Permission to use a testimonial or third-party logo must also satisfy Part C.

The licence has no fixed end date while the material remains lawfully included in the directory or associated publications. You may request removal of material you supplied or withdrawal of a promotional use by contacting us. We will stop new promotional use and remove material from live channels within a reasonable period, ordinarily within 30 days, unless a different period or continued use is justified by law or a separate agreement. Urgent safety, privacy or infringement concerns may require faster action.

Limited copies may remain for legal evidence, complaints, security, ordinary backup cycles or a lawful editorial archive. Copies already distributed cannot always be recalled, but we will not use this qualification to continue misleading promotion or evade a valid legal request. A separate copyright assignment is not reversed merely by closing a listing account. Personal data remains subject to the Privacy Policy and applicable law.

B4 Exclusive videos and other commissioned content

If we agree that a video, photograph, article or other work is to become our exclusive property, the specific content must be covered by a separate signed copyright assignment. An alternative exclusive licence gives us only the rights specified in that licence; it does not itself transfer ownership. Simply sending or uploading material is not an automatic transfer of ownership.

That agreement will identify the work, rights, permitted editing, any credit, any retained or third-party material, and any use allowed to the contributor. Where exclusive rights have been assigned to us without a retained reuse licence, the contributor must obtain our permission before reusing or licensing that assigned content. A business name, pre-existing logo or unrelated material is not transferred merely because it appears in a video.

B5 Contributor assurances

For every submission, you confirm that you have authority to provide it and the permissions necessary for our agreed use. This includes relevant copyright, trade marks, music, stock material, photographs, scripts, performer permissions and information about identifiable people. Do not assume that commissioning a video means you own every right in it.

You must not submit fabricated, unlawful, materially misleading, confidential or infringing content. Factual and objective claims must have an adequate basis. If you contribute professional or technical guidance, stay within your competence, identify material limitations and avoid unsafe instructions. Tell us promptly if content becomes dangerous, materially inaccurate or the subject of a rights dispute.

Our review or acceptance does not replace these obligations. Equally, these obligations do not exclude our own responsibilities as publisher, service provider or data controller.

B6 Packages prices and payment

The order page or written order identifies the service, total charges, applicable VAT, billing interval, start date, initial term, any renewal term, cancellation arrangements and any specific deliverables or placement commitments. Read it before agreeing. A specifically agreed order term prevails over a general term only for that identified matter and only to the extent lawful.

Automatic renewal applies only if clearly stated and agreed before purchase. Otherwise the service ends at the stated term. For a recurring service, you authorise the agreed recurring charges through the named payment provider. That authority is limited by the disclosed price, frequency and cancellation terms. A payment processor is not the supplier of your directory package.

Payment buys the described service, not a guaranteed number of customers, clicks, enquiries, conversions, recommendations, sales, search-engine positions or financial return. Any guaranteed placement, exclusivity or performance commitment must be expressly included in the order. Where advertising rotates or a featured position is shared, we explain that before purchase.

Tell us promptly if an invoice or charge appears wrong. We will investigate genuine disputes. If an undisputed payment is overdue, we may restrict the paid service after a reminder and reasonable opportunity to resolve it. Any restriction is subject to B9. We do not acquire a right to collect an undisclosed fee merely because it appears later on the website.

B7 Cancellation refunds and renewal changes

A monthly business subscription may be cancelled by emailing our contact address with enough information to identify the account, giving 30 days’ notice. We will confirm the effective end date and any final charge. The payment and cancellation arrangements, including how notice affects the final billing period, must be made clear in the order before purchase. We do not require a telephone call as the only cancellation method.

Annual business subscriptions, where offered, are paid upfront and may be discounted compared with monthly payment. Cancelling an annual subscription prevents its renewal but does not by itself give a refund for the unused part of the current annual term once service has begun. Previous months of a properly supplied monthly service are not refunded merely because a monthly subscription is cancelled. These rules do not affect an agreed trial or refund offer, a remedy for our breach, a refund for a service not supplied, or any right required by law. No automatic non-refundable label overrides those rights.

If we cancel a paid service without a breach by you, cannot provide a material promised feature and cannot agree a suitable remedy, or introduce a materially adverse change you are entitled to reject, we refund prepaid charges for the unused affected service. Where your proven breach causes termination, any retained amount must reflect services supplied or recoverable loss; it is not an automatic forfeiture of all advance payments.

We give at least 30 days’ direct notice of a renewal price increase or a materially adverse change to an ongoing business service, and more time where reasonably needed to adapt. The change does not retrospectively alter an agreed paid period. You may cancel the affected future service before the change takes effect. B10 explains other changes and lawful exceptions.

B8 Listing continuity and business data

Ending a paid package ends its paid features. It does not necessarily require removal of every factual reference to the business. An accurate basic listing or editorial reference may continue where we have a lawful basis, appropriate rights and no obligation to remove it. It must not falsely show a current membership, payment, recommendation, affiliation or ownership relationship.

Permission to list a business is not a right to retain personal data indefinitely regardless of objection. Account deletion, copyright permissions, factual business information and personal data requests are assessed separately under the relevant sections. We provide a free correction and removal-request route without requiring the purchase or claim of a listing.

Business users can access their own submitted listing information, account details and any reports or enquiries included in their package. They do not obtain another business’s private account data or the personal details of anonymous visitors merely by purchasing a listing. Public content is visible to other users. We access account, listing, consent, payment-status, technical and moderation records for the purposes in the Privacy Policy.

A business account holder can see and edit the listing information made available in its dashboard and can request a copy of its own account or listing data through our contact route. Access to enquiry details and analytics depends on the features actually included in its package. After an account ends, requests for access to information are assessed under applicable law and the retention rules in our Privacy Policy. We do not give a business private data about unrelated businesses or anonymous visitors.

Our ordinary promotional distribution channels are those described in B3. We do not currently distribute listing content through additional partner or affiliate channels. Businesses remain free to advertise elsewhere and offer their own terms and prices through other channels. The current organic listing order does not give preferential treatment to a directory-owned business.

B9 Restrictions suspension and termination

We may refuse or restrict particular content or services on proportionate grounds: lack of authority to manage the listing; material inaccuracy; suspected impersonation or fraud; infringement; dangerous or unlawful content; undisclosed or fabricated endorsements; non-payment; spam or security misuse; a material or repeated breach of these terms; a legal requirement; or the discontinuation of a service.

Where practicable and appropriate, we explain the issue and give a reasonable opportunity to correct it. We may restrict an affected item promptly to protect users while investigating, rather than end the whole account. We provide reasons by email or another durable form before or when a restriction or suspension takes effect, except where the law permits or requires otherwise.

For termination of the whole ongoing business service, we ordinarily provide at least 30 days’ notice and reasons. A shorter or immediate termination applies only where law permits, including a legal obligation incompatible with that notice, an imperative legal ground, or demonstrable repeated infringement where the applicable rules permit it. We explain the decision without undue delay unless lawful restrictions prevent disclosure. We do not rely on a general discretion to bypass mandatory notice rights.

You may challenge a decision free of charge by replying to the notice or contacting us. Explain the facts and provide supporting evidence. We review the decision fairly and, if we reverse it, restore the relevant service and available account data without undue delay. Cancellation and refund consequences are governed by B7. Complaining does not remove a right to seek legal redress.

B10 Changes to business terms

We send proposed changes affecting a continuing business relationship by email or another durable medium, normally at least 30 days before they take effect. We give a longer reasonable period where technical or commercial adaptation requires it. You may terminate the affected service before the applicable notice period expires. If you request an earlier termination in response to a notified change, we give effect to it promptly and no later than 15 days after receiving your termination notice, unless you choose a later date. We refund prepaid charges for the unused affected service.

Shorter notice is used only where applicable law permits it, such as a binding legal requirement or a genuinely unforeseen and imminent fraud, malware or security threat requiring urgent action. We identify the reason and limit the change to what is necessary. We do not impose retrospective adverse changes.

We retain the applicable version and order records. Any mandatory platform-to-business rights that apply to the service take priority over inconsistent wording here.

B11 Liability in business contracts

This section applies only to a customer or contributor acting wholly or mainly for business purposes who has entered a contract with us incorporating these terms. It does not apply to anyone legally acting as a consumer, an uncontracted listed business or a person’s mandatory data-protection claim.

The exceptions in A11 apply first. Subject to those exceptions and to the requirements of fairness, reasonableness and applicable law, we are not liable under the business contract for loss of anticipated profit, revenue, business opportunity, goodwill or expected savings, or for indirect or consequential loss. This does not remove an express service obligation or a refund properly due under these terms.

Subject to the same qualifications, our total liability to the business arising from a claim or connected series of claims under or in connection with the business contract, whether in contract, negligence or otherwise, is limited to the greater of £1,000 and the charges paid or payable by that business to us for the affected services in the 12 months preceding the first event giving rise to the claim. This is not a limit on any liability that cannot lawfully be limited. The limit does not reduce a prepaid-service refund due under B7.

We are not responsible for failure caused by an event outside our reasonable control to the extent that we could not reasonably prevent or mitigate its effects. We will take reasonable steps to reduce disruption. This does not permit indefinite retention of fees for a service we do not supply or excuse a failure to take appropriate precautions.

B12 Claims caused by business submissions

If a third-party claim directly results from a business customer’s material breach of B2, B5 or Part C, that customer agrees to reimburse our reasonable, evidenced losses and reasonable legal costs to the extent caused by that breach. This obligation does not apply to consumer visitors and does not make a recommender responsible merely because the recommended business performs poorly.

We will notify the customer promptly, take reasonable steps to mitigate loss, allow a reasonable opportunity to participate in the defence, and not agree a settlement imposing liability on that customer without their agreement, not to be unreasonably withheld. There is no reimbursement for loss caused by our own negligence, unlawful conduct, unauthorised alteration or failure to address a known problem. Nothing requires payment of a penalty, fine or other amount where reimbursement is prohibited by law.

Part C Recommendations testimonials and business permissions

C1 Genuine and accurately attributed contributions

Only submit a recommendation or testimonial that you have authority to give or publish. State the real source and do not present a business-to-business relationship as an independently verified consumer review. Describe your own honest experience or opinion and have a reasonable basis for factual claims.

Do not impersonate a customer or business, invent an experience, fabricate a quotation, buy or exchange misleading positive endorsements, conceal an incentive or relationship, or apply feedback about one business to an unrelated business or new owner. You must not offer or accept an incentive conditional on providing a favourable review or recommendation. Disclose payments, free services, discounts, reciprocal arrangements, employment, ownership and other material connections where they could affect how the endorsement is understood.

If another person’s testimonial is submitted, obtain their permission where required, preserve its meaning and retain appropriate evidence of its source and authority. A genuine testimonial does not itself substantiate every objective claim in it. We may request supporting information without publishing private contact details unnecessarily.

C2 Scope and selection

An endorsement may refer to a particular period, transaction, person or service. Changes in ownership or circumstances can make it less relevant. The contributor should update or withdraw it when it becomes materially inaccurate or misleading.

Testimonials supplied for a business’s profile may be selected by that business. Unless we expressly describe a complete review collection and its method, a profile’s testimonials are not an exhaustive or representative account of every customer’s experience. We distinguish this material from any independently collected reviews and explain the verification method actually used. We do not label material as verified without an appropriate basis.

C3 Errors correction and withdrawal

A recommendation may be added by mistake, linked to the wrong profile, displayed because of a technical fault or remain visible after circumstances change. Contact us with the affected URL and the correction or withdrawal needed. Contributors must promptly report an error they become aware of.

We investigate disputed attribution, authority and accuracy. We may hide the item while checking, seek confirmation from the contributor, correct the record, remove it or explain a verified correction. We do not knowingly keep a withdrawn recommendation visible as a current endorsement. Necessary non-public evidence may be retained for complaints or legal purposes under the Privacy Policy.

C4 Limited role of the recommender

Giving a recommendation or testimonial does not, by itself, create a guarantee, insurance, agency, partnership or undertaking to pay compensation if the recommended business’s work is unsatisfactory. The contributor is not agreeing merely by recommending to supervise that work or perform that business’s contractual duties. The directory does not make those promises by displaying the contribution.

This clause does not protect dishonesty, infringement or another act for which the contributor is legally responsible, and does not cancel an express promise made separately. It does not restrict a person’s mandatory rights or exclude liability that the law does not allow to be excluded.

Where these terms form a binding contract, a person or business identified as the author of a displayed recommendation or testimonial may rely on the limited protections expressly stated in this clause under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999, subject to the same legal restrictions. It gives no protection against a person who is not legally bound by the relevant contractual provision. Except for this limited benefit, these terms do not confer contractual enforcement rights on other third parties. We and the contracting user may vary or end our contract without the contributor’s consent, subject to accrued rights and applicable law.

C5 Permissions between businesses

If Business A lets Business B use its testimonial, name or logo, those businesses must agree the permitted use, channels, duration, editing, credit and withdrawal arrangements. Business B must check that the person granting permission has authority and that the relevant rights holder has authorised the use. They should retain a written record and may enter a separate agreement.

Permission to display material on this directory does not automatically authorise Business B to reproduce it on its own website, advertising, social media or printed materials. Conversely, permission for Business B’s own website does not automatically authorise publication by the directory.

The person submitting material to us must separately have authority to grant the directory the publishing permission in B3. We are not a party to a separate agreement between the businesses, do not certify its validity and do not resolve their underlying ownership dispute. We remain responsible for reviewing our own continued publication when a dispute or legal issue is brought to our attention.

C6 Our moderation approach

We prohibit fake reviews, fabricated recommendations, undisclosed incentivised reviews and misleading review information. We take reasonable and proportionate steps appropriate to our service to prevent, detect, investigate and remove this material. These may include authority checks, source evidence, duplicate and anomaly checks, reviewing complaints and examining patterns suggesting manipulation.

We may refuse, restrict, label, correct or remove suspect material while investigating, request further evidence, restrict repeat offenders and correct affected review information. Paying for a listing does not buy a positive endorsement, prevent a valid complaint or secure removal of genuine material solely because it is unfavourable.

Reports can be made through the contact route above. We prioritise issues by seriousness and respond with appropriate action. Moderation reduces risk but is not a promise that every contribution has been individually authenticated. The method and labels shown for a feature must accurately reflect the checks performed.

Part D Copyright reuse and reporting

D1 Ownership and permitted everyday use

Copyright and other intellectual-property rights in the website, original articles, photographs, videos, graphics, software and protected selection or arrangement of content belong to us or the relevant rights holders. Business names and marks remain the property of their owners. We do not claim exclusive ownership of bare facts, public events or ideas merely because we report them.

You may browse the website, share a normal link and make reasonable copies for your own private reference or a genuine enquiry about a business, provided that this does not infringe another person’s rights or involve commercial republication. Do not remove ownership notices or misrepresent the source. Additional uses require a written licence unless applicable law permits them.

D2 Reuse by publishers directories and other services

Without prior written permission from the appropriate rights holder, you must not copy, republish, distribute, adapt, sell, commercially exploit or incorporate protected material into another website, news publication, directory, blog, database, advertisement or service, except where applicable law permits that use. This applies particularly to photographs, videos, articles, original business descriptions and protected compilations.

Credit, a source link or the fact that material is accessible online does not by itself provide a licence. Requests to use our content should identify the material, proposed use, publication, audience, territory and duration. We can grant only rights we hold or are authorised to license.

Nothing here prevents a statutory exception or other use that cannot lawfully be prohibited by contract. UK copyright law contains specific exceptions, including qualifying fair dealing; there is no permission under these terms to copy material simply by calling the use “fair use”. The exception for reporting current events does not itself cover copying photographs. Any other claimed exception must satisfy its own legal conditions.

D3 Scraping databases and automated use

Except where applicable law permits otherwise or we have given written permission, you must not scrape, harvest or systematically extract or reuse protected content or listing records to create, enrich or maintain another directory, commercial publication, database or competing service. This includes repeated extraction of smaller portions where the combined activity infringes copyright, database rights or a binding contractual restriction.

Do not bypass access controls, rate limits or other technical restrictions. Automated access must respect applicable technical instructions. We permit ordinary public search-engine indexing for linking users to our pages, subject to our published crawler controls and the rights we are able to grant. That permission does not authorise a substitute directory, commercial republication or model training beyond what applicable law permits.

D4 Enforcement

We reserve the right to investigate suspected misuse and enforce rights that we own or are entitled to enforce. Where legally available, we may seek removal, an injunction, damages or an account of profits, and recovery of legal costs. The remedy and amount depend on the facts and applicable law; this page does not impose an automatic infringement charge.

D5 Business names and unclaimed listings

We may use a business’s name to identify it accurately in a directory entry or editorial context where lawful. That does not give us ownership of its name or permission to imply its approval. A logo, photograph or copied description can involve rights beyond the use of a business name and must have a proper basis for publication.

If your business was listed by another person or by our editorial team, you may report an error, dispute a recommendation, ask about the source, raise an intellectual-property or privacy concern, or request review or removal. You do not have to pay or accept a business contract to do so. We consider the actual rights and circumstances, rather than treating every objection as a copyright claim or assuming public availability settles it.

D6 Reporting copyright and other content problems

Email info@1066directory.com or use Contact page. Tell us, where available:

  • Your name, contact details and whether you act for a rights holder or affected person.
  • The exact page address and the material concerned.
  • The type of issue, such as copyright, trade mark, mistaken identity, inaccurate listing, privacy, defamation, fake endorsement or dangerous advice.
  • What right or interest is affected, why the material is problematic and any reasonable supporting evidence or link to the original work.
  • The correction, restriction, removal or other action requested, and any urgency.

Please provide information honestly and explain any uncertainty. We do not require a purchase, a court order or a particular form of sworn statement before reviewing a report. Missing information may require follow-up; it does not justify ignoring a credible urgent issue.

We assess reports promptly and prioritise safety, security, privacy and legal urgency. We may temporarily disable access while investigating, contact the contributor, request evidence, preserve necessary records, correct or remove material, or explain why further action is not appropriate. We follow applicable statutory procedures where relevant. There is no automatic reinstatement merely because a contributor disputes a complaint.

We share only the information reasonably needed to investigate, respond, protect rights or comply with law. We do not routinely publish a complainant’s private contact details. A report is not a guarantee of confidentiality against a lawful disclosure requirement, and we explain material sharing where appropriate.

D7 Editorial corrections and complaints

For a news or guide correction, identify the statement, why it is wrong and any reliable supporting information. We distinguish factual corrections, disputed opinion and lawful editorial judgment. We may add a correction or response, amend the content or remove it where appropriate. Paying for a listing or advertising does not give a right to control unrelated editorial coverage.

If you disagree with our response, reply with the remaining concern and any new evidence. We review material that may have been overlooked. Using this process does not restrict the right to complain to a regulator or seek another lawful remedy.
